Darius James OBE

Darius is from Newport and trained at The Royal Ballet School. He danced and toured extensively with Northern Ballet, Alexander Roy London Ballet Theatre and as a guest artist with many companies.

He has lectured at Pontypool College and at Swansea College, and has been a guest teacher and adjudicator for the Cecchetti Society.

Darius is Founder and Artistic Director of Ballet Cymru and has choreographed many one-act and full-length productions for the company.

In 2008 Darius received a Creative Wales Award from the Arts Council of Wales which was presented to him by Rhodri Glyn Thomas AM, Minister for Heritage.

Darius has featured in Who’s Who since 2012 and was made an Honorary Vice President of The London Ballet Circle in 2013.

In 2019 he received an OBE for Services to Ballet and Community Dance.

Mae Darius yn dod o Gasnewydd ac wedi'i hyfforddi yn Ysgol y Ballet Frenhinol. Bu'n dawnsio ac yn teithio'n helaeth gyda Northern Ballet, Alexander Roy London Ballet Theatre ac fel artist gwadd gyda llawer o gwmnïau.

Mae wedi darlithio yng Ngholeg Pont-y-pŵl ac yng Ngholeg Abertawe, ac mae wedi bod yn athro gwadd ac yn ddyfarnwr i Gymdeithas Cecchetti.

Darius yw Sylfaenydd a Chyfarwyddwr Artistig Ballet Cymru ac mae wedi coreograffu llawer o gynyrchiadau un act a llawn amser i'r cwmni.

Yn 2008 derbyniodd Darius Wobr Cymru Greadigol gan Gyngor Celfyddydau Cymru a gyflwynwyd iddo gan Rhodri Glyn Thomas AC, y Gweinidog dros Dreftadaeth.

Mae Darius wedi ymddangos yn Who's Who ers 2012 ac fe'i gwnaed yn Is-lywydd Anrhydeddus Cylch Bale Llundain yn 2013.

Yn 2019 derbyniodd OBE am Wasanaethau i Ballet a Dawns Gymunedol.
